Manoa Energy has successfully completed the delivery of all battery energy storage system (BESS) units for **Helios 1**, a 50 MW / 104 MWh project located in Shinkawa, Sapporo, Hokkaido. This milestone marks a key step toward the commissioning of the facility, which is scheduled to begin operations by the end of 2025.

Developed in partnership with Brawn Capital and HD Renewable Energy Japan (HDJP), Helios 1 is designed to enhance grid stability and support the integration of renewable energy sources in Hokkaido — a region experiencing rapid growth in solar and wind generation. The system will store surplus energy during times of high production and release it during peak demand, helping to reduce curtailment and address supply-demand imbalances.

The project utilises Tesla’s Megapack 2XL batteries, known for their high energy density and reliability. Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) is being managed by Hokkai Denko, ensuring adherence to rigorous quality standards.

HDJP has acquired a majority stake in the project through a Tokumei Kumiai (silent partnership) agreement with Brawn Capital, Manoa Energy’s parent company.

“Helios 1 represents a significant step forward in our commitment to supporting Japan’s energy transition,” said Keeran Hooper, Senior Project Manager at Manoa Energy. “The successful delivery of the systems puts us firmly on track for project completion later this year.”

Manoa Energy continues to expand its presence in Japan, with a robust pipeline of BESS projects in development. The company remains committed to delivering innovative energy solutions that contribute to a more sustainable and resilient energy future for Japan.
